A larger, lighter, and bloodier mock-up of the Great Knife.

This mock-up is made of a solid pine plank that was originally from a DEP barricade measuring 2"x8"x84". Seven feet was a bit much in terms of length, and the 7.5" breadth was a bit wide, so I had it cut down to six feet in length with a 6" dimensional breadth.

Most of it was carved out with a sawzall since I didn't have access to a proper workshop at the time. Wood filler was used on rougher portions to cover up the grain, and all surfaces were sanded smooth, primed with Krylon spray primer, then given an intial coat of metallic silver.

The rust-effect was done with flat black spray paint and ruddy brown spray primer.

The blood was done with a specially mixed batch of acrylic paint and applied with much care and mess by brush and splatter.

The topcoat is a combination of satin-finish clear laquer on the main portion of the weapon with a high-gloss clear laquer on the very bloody spots for a slick, wet, still-fresh look. Incidentally, the two finishes made for a slight color offset that enhanced the fresh-blood vs. dried-blood effect.

In retrospect, I probably should have used the wood filler on the entire weapon to completely eliminate all wood grain.

i like this one much better.
much more detailed. took more time on it...and it is steel.
i like the blood, but the handle looks off.
i recommend, that when you get the chance to remake this sword in steel, using [link] this video as refrence for the silent hill 5 version of the great knife.
overall it is a bit thick, but that is only because of the wood.

Indeed a great Knife, the blood must tell of its scary but successful exploits of carving is own path o.o. Nicely done, the blood also looks good too.

Alright; do you work with metal?

Steel is extremely heavy. A good 4x4 sheet of the stuff weighs almost three times that of the 'great knife'. Making it look real and aking it for functionality are two separate things; it's why lots of swords don't look good; they're meant to stab things.

yes, however, the great knife is almost 90 pounds. hardly usable in real life. hence it's use in the land of video games, thats why clouds 9 foot long sword isnt possible in the real world. i have worked with metal only once, and i can see it would be a very hard thing to do, however, i believe the work would be worth it if i had that talent [as it sounds like you do have said talent]
although katana are pretty [and extremely difficult to make] and they are fully functional.

My point.

YOU CAN'T USE IT. :| So telling him to make it out of metal is nuts.

YOU DONT NEED TO USE IT! DO. NOT. NEED. TO. USE. IT.
IT CAN BE USED FOR SHOW.

IT COULDNT BE USED IN REAL LIFE IN THE FIRST PLACE! NOW BACK OFF, ILL TELL ANYONE ANYTHING I GODDAMN PLEASE. I HAVE A RIGHT TO MY OWN OPINION!

AND BEFORE YOU GO CRITICIZING OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS AND ART, WHY DONT YOU DEVELOP SOME GODDAMN ARTISTIC SKILLS OR SOME FRIGGIN PEOPLE SKILLS!
